Using The Spiral To Throw An Opponent


Moving an opponent through three planes of movement using a spiral movement is a very powerful principle seen in many martial arts styles. 


This variation of the shoulder throw comes from the Russian Martial Art School ROSS. Unlike a standard shoulder throw as often seen in Judo and Sambo this variation does not lift the opponent from the floor. Instead a spiral movement is used to rotate the opponent through three planes by taking their shoulder towards the far hip.
